Island Health Incentives



Retention Incentive 

A temporary retention incentive provides all employees working in North Vancouver Island (in regular status positions) up to $2,000 per quarter, pro-rated based on their productive hours worked, with a maximum incentive payable to $8,000 annually.


Temporary Travel Incentive

If you are asked to be redeployed to a North Vancouver Island worksite that requires you to travel 40 kilometers or greater from your primary worksite you are eligible for additional incentives


North Vancouver Island Stabilization Initiative

If a current Island Health employee refers a successful candidate to a difficult to fill vacancy in an eligible worksite, the employee will receive: 

  • $1,500 for a regular full-time or part-time position

  • $500 for a temporary or term full time or part time position 

  • $250 for a casual position (minimum number of hours worked required)

Physician Recruitment Incentive

Recruitment Incentive of $20,000 may be available to all physicians accepting a permanent position in North Vancouver Island.  The amount is pro-rated for part time positions.


Physician Relocation Support

Physicians accepting a permanent position and relocating to the region are eligible for a relocation stipend from $9,000 to $15,000. 


*Physicians relocating from another rural community it BC must have completed one year of service in that community.


Locum Opportunity

Current support for locums coming to the region include support for travel costs including:

  • Return economy flights (up to $1000)

  • If driving – paid mileage from your location to the site at 0.68/km

  • Meal allowance with traveling

  • Accommodation


You will also receive a travel time honorarium (within BC):

  • $250  - 2.5 hrs or less return trip

  • $500   -2.5 hrs up to 4 hours return trip

  • $1000 - 4 hrs to 10 hours return trip

  • $1500 - greater than 10 hours
